Math 7 Enrichment (Grade 7)

Unlock Your Math Potential!

Are you a Grade 7 student who enjoys discovering patterns, making sense of challenging problems, and explaining how you know your solution works? In this course, you’ll investigate mathematical relationships, represent your thinking with tables, graphs, diagrams, expressions, and equations, and compare different strategies for solving problems. You’ll strengthen essential Math 7 concepts while building the algebraic reasoning needed for Integrated Math 1. Whether you’re ready to push your thinking further or simply want to become a more confident problem solver, this program is for you.

Prepare for potential acceleration
: The goal of this course is to give students opportunities to strengthen their foundational skills and explore essential topics from the Math 7 Accelerated curriculum. Participation in this class will not guarantee placement in Integrated Math 1. To place in Integrated Math 1, students must satisfy placement requirements including earning qualifying scores on placement tests.

Program highlights

  • Ninety minutes a week: a longer block than most after-school programs, giving time to work through problems properly rather than rushing them.
  • Reason and communicate: students make sense of problems, explain their thinking, justify conclusions, and compare approaches with classmates.
  • Represent mathematics in several ways: tables, graphs, diagrams, equations, expressions, and words — and how those representations connect.
  • Build algebraic fluency: proportional relationships, expressions, multi-step equations, inequalities, functions, and graphing.
  • Solve meaningful problems: unfamiliar and real-world situations that reward strategy rather than repetition.
  • Connect the ideas: students see how unit rate, proportional relationships, slope, equations, and functions build on one another.
  • Students leave with: stronger conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and the confidence to approach a hard problem independently.

Ways to take part

  • One class, several entry points — every student works in the same mathematical community, but tasks are built to be entered in more than one way. Students start with strategies that make sense to them, discuss and refine their reasoning together, and then extend to more sophisticated representations and challenging questions as they’re ready.
