Book Club (Gr. 5–7)
Book Club (Grades 5–7) Mondays 3:30-4:30 (LS Library) The Middle School Book Club offers students an opportunity to engage with powerful stories, share thoughtful discussions, and participate in meaningful activities inspired by what we read. Together, we’ll explore themes of mystery, history, identity, and resilience — all while enjoying a good book (and some snacks, too!). Each meeting will include guided discussions, creative or analytical activities connected to the books, and time to reflect on the characters and themes. Join us as we read, discuss, and think deeply about stories that challenge, inspire, and stay with us long after the final page. Led by Tara Peace and Rebekah Dawson-Bowman -
Freestyle Martial Arts
Martial Arts program teaches confidence, focus, and social skills through the fundamentals of martial arts (awareness, traditional karate, kicking, and boxing). Little Torrey LAX
Little Torrey LAX is designed for students in Grades 1–4 who are excited to learn the fundamentals of lacrosse in a fun, supportive environment. Whether your child is brand new to the sport or looking to build confidence and skills, this program offers an engaging introduction to the game. No equipment is required. Participants should bring: Athletic sneakers Refillable water bottle Coach Kyle (also known as Mr. E), alongside members of our varsity lacrosse team, will lead each session with enthusiasm and encouragement, helping students build skills while having a great time on the field. -
Lower School Homework Club (Gr. 3–4)
Get a head start on homework and project assignments during this quiet study time led by Lower School faculty! Students receive close support and guidance as they complete their weekly assignments and/or prepare for upcoming class projects. This program is designed to provide students with a structured, consistent framework for completing homework assignments and practicing organizational skills while in the school setting. Students are asked to come to each session with assignments to complete and a book to read for weekly minutes, and to be prepared to work for the entire duration. Additional cross-disciplinary project-based learning activities are available for those students who are interested. A snack is provided, however, students are welcome to bring their own healthy snacks. Please let us know of any food allergies. Middle School Homework Club (Gr. 5–6)
We’re excited to kick off the school year with the return of our 5/6 Middle School Homework Club, offered every Tuesday from 3:30–4:30 PM. This after-school program is a great opportunity for students to get a head start on homework, build strong organizational and study skills, spend time reading, and enjoy some light snacks! We have 18 spots available for this session, and enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis. If more than 30 students express interest, we’ll explore adding another day to accommodate additional participants. Families of the first 18 students to sign up will receive a confirmation email with further details about our first session, which begins on September 8th. Mini Med Part II
Mini Med: Part II invites students to continue their exploration into the exciting world of medicine through new, hands-on, age-appropriate experiences. Whether your child participated in the winter session or is joining for the first time, this program offers fresh lessons and engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding. Students will don kid-friendly lab coats as they explore advanced topics such as body systems, vital signs, immunity, and preventative care. Through interactive experiments and the use of real medical tools and anatomical models, students will build confidence while developing a stronger understanding of how the human body works. Returning students will expand on foundational concepts introduced in Part I, while new participants will receive all the guidance needed to jump right in. EcoArts Kids
EcoArts Kids makes art time the best part of the week! Kids get to paint, sculpt, draw, and build with all kinds of materials. From watercolors and clay to pastels and cool recycled stuff, every project is inspired by real plants and animals, so kids can discover the amazing nature all around them. We play with color, try new art skills, and create things they’ll be proud to bring home, all while learning how to help take care of our planet. Mindful Movement: Empowering Youth Through Yoga
This children’s yoga class is designed to support physical and emotional growth by blending movement, breath, and mindfulness in a fun and engaging way. Ultimate Frisbee
Come join the fun and fast-growing sport of Ultimate Frisbee! This exciting team game is played 7 vs. 7 on a field and blends agility, athleticism, strategy, and teamwork; all with a flying disc. Students will learn foundational throwing and catching skills, movement, offensive and defensive positioning, and game play in a supportive, high-energy environment. Ultimate is known for its strong emphasis on sportsmanship, inclusion, and community. Whether your child is brand new to the sport or ready to sharpen their skills, all experience levels are welcome. Color, Craft, Create!
Students in grades 2–4 are invited to get creative each week as they dive into a brand-new art project. From painting and crafting to beading and imaginative design, students will explore a variety of hands-on activities that can be completed in under an hour. This enrichment program encourages creativity, confidence, and fun in a relaxed, supportive environment. The program will be led by Beth Levin (3rd grade Lead Teacher) and Sandra Carlton (3rd grade Associate Teacher), who are excited to inspire young artists and guide them through each week’s project. -
MS Surf Club
Middle School Surf offers students the opportunity to build confidence, resilience, and ocean awareness through structured surf instruction at La Jolla Shores. This program focuses on foundational surf skills including paddling technique, wave selection, pop-ups, balance, ocean safety, and surf etiquette. Students will develop strength, endurance, and confidence while learning to read conditions and navigate the water responsibly. Sessions take place at La Jolla Shores, where students will be dropped off and picked up directly at the beach. Students must provide their own: Wetsuit Surfboard The instructor is happy to offer guidance on selecting appropriate equipment for those new to the sport. Mandarin Playgroup
The Mandarin Playgroup is a fun, immersive language enrichment program designed for Grade 1–4 students with little to no prior exposure to Mandarin Chinese. Through play-based learning, music, movement, storytelling, and hands-on activities, students are introduced to Mandarin in a low-pressure, engaging environment that builds confidence and curiosity. The program focuses on listening and speaking skills first, allowing children to naturally absorb the sounds and rhythm of Mandarin while developing cultural awareness. Program Goals Introduce basic Mandarin vocabulary and everyday expressions Build confidence in listening and speaking through repetition and play Foster a positive attitude toward learning a new language Encourage cultural curiosity and global awareness Support social interaction and collaborative learning Learning Approach Play-based immersion: games, role-play, and interactive activities Music & movement: songs, chants, and physical response activities Storytelling & visuals: picture books, puppets, and props Hands-on learning: crafts, simple cooking activities, and cultural projects Small-group interaction to support different learning paces English may be used sparingly to support comprehension, but Mandarin is emphasized in a natural and encouraging way. -
Beginner Tap Class
Get ready to shuffle, kick-ball-change and make some noise! Our Beginner Tap Class is the perfect place for tiny dancers to start their dance adventure. No experience needed! We’ll learn tap basics, fun rhythmic combinations and play games that build coordination, balance, and confidence. It will be a toe-tapping good time! Torrey Treks-Off Campus Adventure Week
Torrey Treks: Off-Campus Adventure Week June 8-12. Full Day! School’s out for the summer! It’s time to roam wild with special full-day field trips. This week offers students in Grades 1–8 options to get out and explore. From a fully supervised week of daily excursions to some of Southern California’s most mentionable destinations, or select a week in an interactive adventure camps, parkour, or gymnastics gym. Campers build independence, strengthen friendships, and experience hands-on learning beyond the classroom while enjoying a safe and structured environment supervised by LJCDS staff. Torrey Treks is structured as an all-inclusive experience. Fee covers daily transportation, entry fees to each destination, and full supervision throughout the day. This premium week reflects the coordination and logistics required for off-campus programming while providing families with a seamless, thoughtfully organized adventure experience. 7:30 a.m. -3:00 p.m. For Grades K-1: Gymnastics Camp A week of Gymnastics at Gyminny Kids in UTC. AM–Sports: Torrey Girls Volleyball Camp (Grade 2-8)
Torrey Girls Volleyball Camp is a four-day morning skills camp designed specifically for Grades 2-8 students. Beginner to advanced players are welcome to develop their skills in a focused and supportive environment. Led by LJCDS Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Tina Kinkead, players will work on tactical strategies and essential volleyball skills, including passing, setting, hitting, blocking, serving, and digging. Instruction emphasizes proper technique, game awareness, and confidence on the court. Players will be grouped appropriately to ensure all participants are challenged and supported as they continue to grow their volleyball skills. -
Athletic Performance Camp (Grades 5–12)
Athletic Performance Camp is designed for middle school and upper school athletes looking to improve overall athleticism, movement quality, and physical performance. Whether a novice or elite competitor, single-sport or multisport athlete, this program supports athletes at all levels. Training focuses on joint integrity, stabilization, balance, coordination, agility, functional strength, and conditioning. Athletes will also develop proper mechanics for running, jumping, and moving efficiently in multiple directions. The camp offers multiple session options by age and experience level, allowing athletes to register for one or more weeks and select sessions that best match their developmental needs. Sustainability in Action: Exploring San Diego’s Ecosystems (Grades 9-12)
Sustainability in Action: Exploring San Diego’s Ecosystems is a full-day, week-long summer program for students in Grades 9–12 that combines environmental science, community engagement, and hands-on service learning. Students will explore San Diego’s diverse ecosystems through daily off-campus field experiences, including coastal habitats, canyon landscapes, community gardens, and urban environments. Through direct observation and fieldwork, participants gain first-hand insight into local environmental challenges and sustainability efforts. Throughout the week, students will engage with topics such as environmental sustainability, community advocacy, and environmental justice, while collaborating with local organizations, experts, and community leaders. Participants will complete approximately 15 hours of meaningful service as part of the program, building both environmental literacy and leadership skills. AM–SPORTS Tennis Camp (Gr. 1–10)

This camp teaches and enhances the students’ love for the sport of tennis in a structured environment that focuses on teaching solid fundamentals to allow for proper development. Sign up for one week or all eight. Each day of camp includes drilling and stroke production, footwork and movement, and appropriate strategy sessions based on skill level. Continual evaluation and feedback are provided. What to bring: Each player must bring their tennis racket and any other items they feel necessary to compete, plus a snack and refillable water bottle. Kindergarten: Ready, Set, Go! – Things with Wings
This program is available to students enrolled at LJCDS in fall 2026 only. Get ready for Kindergarten. Through rich literature, hands-on art projects, songs and games, students explore a variety of things with wings—from bugs to birds to airplanes. Each day is a new surprise! This two-week thematic program, which includes PE, snacks and recess, allows students to meet new friends and become accustomed to kindergarten routines at LJCDS. Kindergarten PM Camp Torrey
Kindergarten PM – Camp Torreys Kindergarten PM Camp Torreys is an afternoon enrichment program designed specifically for Kindergarten students. This on-campus program provides a relaxed, engaging extension to the day through hands-on activities, creative play, outdoor movement, and social time with peers. The afternoon experience supports Kindergarten-aged learners with developmentally appropriate activities that encourage cooperation, creativity, and confidence. Campers participate in games, crafts, and guided play in a nurturing environment led by LJCDS staff. Kindergarten PM Camp Torreys pairs well with morning Kindergarten: Ready, Set, Go! programs for families seeking a full-day Kindergarten experience. This program is separate from Camp Torreys for Grades 1–4 and is tailored exclusively for Kindergarten students. Families enrolling in both a morning Kindergarten program and Kindergarten PM Camp Torreys will have a supervised transition between programs. -
ECC Summer of Wonder: Session 1: From Page to Play!
Session 1: From Page to Play! (2.5 weeks) This program is only available to students enrolled at LJCDS in fall 2026. Where stories jump off the page and into play! Tiny Torrey and Jr. Kindergarten students are invited to explore children’s literature by turning stories into action, by creating puppets, acting out tales, singing, dancing, and making art inspired by the books they love. Every week invites imagination, movement, and joyful expression. June 15-July 1 (Closed June 19, July 2 & 3) Morning summer sessions run from 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and are offered in two-week increments. A mid-morning snack is provided. Children must be fully potty-trained to participate. What to Bring: A reusable water bottle Sunscreen and please apply before arrival Close toed shoes A change of clothes Arrival & Dismissal The entrance to the Early Childhood Center is located in the Eastgate Mall parking lot, closest to Genesee Avenue. Camp Torreys (Grades 1–4) LJCDS’s signature summer Camp Torreys is a full-day summer experience for students in Grades 1–4, offering a rotating mix of enrichment classes, hands-on projects, and active play led by LJCDS faculty, staff, and trusted partners. Each week is anchored by a theme, with activities rotating throughout the week to provide variety, creativity, and fun. Camp Torreys is now offered as a cohesive full-day program with one simple weekly registration. Campers may enroll in full-day sessions, with select half-day athletic and specialty academic options are available during certain weeks. Optional Extended Day is offered for families who need additional after-camp coverage.
