(Gr. 1-2)Lower School Academic Specialty Camp Summer 26 CatalogWe would like to invite your child to FUNdamentals: Amazing Animals, designed specifically for students in Grades 1 and 2. During this two-week session, students will explore the fascinating world of animals from around the globe, with a focus on animal habitats, adaptations, life cycles, and the unique characteristics that help animals survive and thrive in their environments. Each class session will thoughtfully integrate reading, writing, and math activities into the study of animals. Much of the learning will take place through hands-on experiences, demonstrations, and the use of manipulatives. Students can look forward to comparing animal traits, exploring food chains and ecosystems, creating animal models, analyzing data, and engaging in creative projects that bring animal science to life. This theme also allows for special opportunities throughout the session, including visits from animal experts or a local field experience to an animal sanctuary or vivarium, further bringing learning to life in meaningful and memorable ways. (Gr. 3-4)Lower School Academic Specialty Camp Summer 26 CatalogWe would like to invite your child to Summer FUNdamentals: Pyramids, Pharaohs, and Mummies—Oh My!, designed specifically for Grade 3 and 4 students. Our focus for the next 2 weeks will be Ancient Egypt, with an emphasis on the study of pharaohs, gods/goddesses, pyramids, hieroglyphs, and daily life on the Nile. Each class session will incorporate reading, writing and math activities into the study of Egypt, with much of the instruction and research in the form of demonstration and/or use of manipulatives. Your child can look forward to deciphering hieroglyphs, measuring in cubits, building a sledge, and creating a model of the Nile River as it would have appeared 5,000 years ago. Through rich literature, hands-on art projects, songs and games, students explore a variety of things with wings—from bugs to birds to airplanes. Each day is a new surprise! This two-week thematic program, which includes PE, snacks and recess, allows students to meet new friends and become accustomed to kindergarten routines at LJCDS.
