Little Torrey LAXSpring SportsLittle Torrey LAX is designed for students in Grades 1–4 who are excited to learn the fundamentals of lacrosse in a fun, supportive environment. Whether your child is brand new to the sport or looking to build confidence and skills, this program offers an engaging introduction to the game. No equipment is required. Lower SchoolExtended Day ChildcareThe Extended Day program provides daily, fee-based childcare for students in Tiny Torreys through Grade 4. Grades 5–6 students are supervised at no cost.Students in Tiny Torreys and Jr. Kindergarten spend their afternoons in the Early Childhood Center (ECC), while kindergarteners and 1st graders will stay comfortable in ther familiar kindergarten area. Students in Grades 2–4 split their time between the Lower School playground and the Lower school classroom 7. An afternoon snack is provided. Extended Day is available for: -ECC from 3 to 5:30 p.m.-K–Grade 4 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.-Grades 5–6 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. (Free of charge, no registration required)When registering, families have the option to pick their days or sign up for a consistent schedule. Lower School Academic Specialty Camp Summer 26 CatalogFUN-dementals-Lower School Specialty Academic Camp Designed to support a confident and joyful transition into the upcoming school year, our Lower School Specialty Academic Camps combine skill-building with hands-on exploration and connection. Led by LJCDS Lower School teachers, these engaging two-week camps keep academic skills fresh while fostering curiosity, creativity, and friendship. Session: July 20–31 (2 weeks) 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Students entering Grades 1 and 2 will join FUNdamentals: Amazing Animals, taught by first-grade educators Mr. Espejo and Mr. Foley. Campers will explore fascinating animals from around the world and the habitats where they live while strengthening foundational reading, writing, and math skills through interactive learning. Students entering Grades 3 and 4 will participate in FUNdamentals: Pyramids, Pharaohs, and Mummies—Oh My!, led by third-grade educator Lisa Bennet and Lower School assistant educator Natalie Edelson. Through the study of ancient Egypt—pharaohs, pyramids, hieroglyphs, and life along the Nile—students will engage in rich academic exploration designed to reinforce essential literacy and math concepts. WaitlistLower School Homework Club (Gr. 3–4)Spring EnrichmentGet a head start on homework and project assignments during this quiet study time led by Lower School faculty! Students receive close support and guidance as they complete their weekly assignments and/or prepare for upcoming class projects. This program is designed to provide students with a structured, consistent framework for completing homework assignments and practicing organizational skills while in the school setting. Students are asked to come to each session with assignments to complete and a book to read for weekly minutes, and to be prepared to work for the entire duration. Additional cross-disciplinary project-based learning activities are available for those students who are interested. A snack is provided, however, students are welcome to bring their own healthy snacks. Please let us know of any food allergies. MS Surf ClubSpring 2026 Enrichment ProgramsMiddle School Surf offers students the opportunity to build confidence, resilience, and ocean awareness through structured surf instruction at La Jolla Shores. This program focuses on foundational surf skills including paddling technique, wave selection, pop-ups, balance, ocean safety, and surf etiquette. Students will develop strength, endurance, and confidence while learning to read conditions and navigate the water responsibly. Sessions take place at La Jolla Shores, where students will be dropped off and picked up directly at the beach. Students must provide their own: Wetsuit Surfboard The instructor is happy to offer guidance on selecting appropriate equipment for those new to the sport. Mandarin PlaygroupSpring EnrichmentThe Mandarin Playgroup is a fun, immersive language enrichment program designed for Grade 1–4 students with little to no prior exposure to Mandarin Chinese. Through play-based learning, music, movement, storytelling, and hands-on activities, students are introduced to Mandarin in a low-pressure, engaging environment that builds confidence and curiosity. The program focuses on listening and speaking skills first, allowing children to naturally absorb the sounds and rhythm of Mandarin while developing cultural awareness. Marine Science & SurfMiddle School Camp Summer 26 CatalogThis 1 week experiential course explores how the ocean works while diving into the marine species, ecosystems, and conservation challenges unique to San Diego. Field-based and regionally focused, students will travel throughout San Diego County to observe the ocean firsthand and learn directly from experts who study and protect it. As part of the experience, students will participate in morning surf lessons, using time in the water to better understand wave dynamics, coastal processes, and the physical forces that shape our shoreline. These sessions provide an active, hands-on foundation for the scientific concepts explored throughout the week. Additional potential student experiences include snorkeling with leopard sharks, studying local oyster aquaculture and tasting oysters on the half shell, observing marine mammals at sea, growing grunion, and visiting unique coastal sites around the county. Together, these experiences help students build a deeper understanding of marine ecosystems while connecting science, conservation, and real-world application. Middle School Camp Summer 26 CatalogMiddle School Summer Programs (Grades 5–8) LJCDS Middle School Summer Programs offer dynamic, skill-building experiences designed for students entering Grades 5–8. Whether exploring STEM, creative arts, leadership development, athletics, or academic enrichment, students engage in focused programs that challenge their thinking, spark curiosity, and build confidence. Courses are designed to be hands-on, interactive, and age-appropriate, providing students with opportunities to deepen interests, try something new, and connect with peers in a supportive and engaging environment. Middle School Homework Club (Gr. 5–6)Spring EnrichmentWe’re excited to kick off the school year with the return of our 5/6 Middle School Homework Club, offered every Tuesday from 3:30–4:30 PM. This after-school program is a great opportunity for students to get a head start on homework, build strong organizational and study skills, spend time reading, and enjoy some light snacks! We have 18 spots available for this session, and enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis. If more than 30 students express interest, we’ll explore adding another day to accommodate additional participants. PM – Fashion and Costume Building (Grades 5–8)Middle School Camp Summer 26 CatalogFashion and Costume Building is a hands-on sewing and design course for students in Grades 5–8 who are interested in creating clothing and costumes that reflect their personal style and imagination. Students will learn how to take measurements, work with paper patterns, cut fabric, sew pieces together, fit garments, and finish their projects. Instruction covers both foundational sewing skills and creative problem-solving, with opportunities for students to design and build unique pieces. The class uses a small number of sewing machines in the lab. Students are also welcome to bring their own sewing machine, provided it is new or has been recently serviced. This course may be taken more than once, as students work on different projects each session. PM-Blacksmithing Summer Camp Gr. 9-12Upper School Camp Summer 26 CatalogThis hands-on Blacksmithing Summer Camp introduces students to the art and science of shaping hot steel in a safe, supportive shop environment. Campers learn how metal behaves under heat and force while building real skills in craftsmanship, problem-solving, and design. No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to try something new. Students begin with a strong focus on safety and tool use, then progress through foundational forging techniques such as drawing out, bending, twisting, and shaping steel at the anvil. Along the way, they explore age-appropriate materials science concepts that explain why steel hardens, softens, and changes as it heats and cools. Daily demonstrations and close instructor coaching ensure students build confidence and control. By the end of camp, each student completes several forged projects—both functional and decorative—and takes home a final piece of their own design. The camp concludes with a casual showcase where families can see students’ work and hear about their process.
