Sustainability in Action: Exploring San Diego’s Ecosystems (Grades 9-12)Upper School Camp Summer 26 CatalogSustainability in Action: Exploring San Diego’s Ecosystems is a full-day, week-long summer program for students in Grades 9–12 that combines environmental science, community engagement, and hands-on service learning. Students will explore San Diego’s diverse ecosystems through daily off-campus field experiences, including coastal habitats, canyon landscapes, community gardens, and urban environments. Through direct observation and fieldwork, participants gain first-hand insight into local environmental challenges and sustainability efforts. Throughout the week, students will engage with topics such as environmental sustainability, community advocacy, and environmental justice, while collaborating with local organizations, experts, and community leaders. Participants will complete approximately 15 hours of meaningful service as part of the program, building both environmental literacy and leadership skills. Torrey Treks-Off Campus Adventure WeekTorrey Treks: Off Campus Adventures Summer 26 CatalogTorrey Treks: Off-Campus Adventure Week June 8-12. Full Day! School’s out for the summer! It’s time to roam wild with special full-day field trips. This week offers students in Grades 1–8 options to get out and explore. From a fully supervised week of daily excursions to some of Southern California’s most mentionable destinations, or select a week in an interactive adventure camps, parkour, or gymnastics gym. Campers build independence, strengthen friendships, and experience hands-on learning beyond the classroom while enjoying a safe and structured environment supervised by LJCDS staff. Torrey Treks is structured as an all-inclusive experience. Fee covers daily transportation, entry fees to each destination, and full supervision throughout the day. This premium week reflects the coordination and logistics required for off-campus programming while providing families with a seamless, thoughtfully organized adventure experience. 7:30 a.m. -3:00 p.m. For Grades K-1: Gymnastics Camp A week of Gymnastics at Gyminny Kids in UTC. For Grades 1-4 Daily Field Trip Trek Locations: San Diego Zoo LEGOLAND Science Cube Rock & Jump Trampoline Park New Children's Museum Field trip destinations are subject to change due to availability, weather, or other logistical needs. For Grades 1-6: Parkour A week of Parkour at APEX Rogue Gym in San Diego. For Grades 6-8: Positive Adventure Camp Kayaking through the Bay Surf Lessons at Mission beach Rock Climbing at Vertical Hold Snorkeling in the Bay Hiking Mt. Upper School Camp Summer 26 CatalogUpper School Summer Programs (Grades 9–12) Upper School Summer Programs at LJCDS provide high-impact academic, creative, and athletic opportunities for students entering Grades 9–12. These programs are designed to support growth, skill development, and personal exploration in a focused and engaging setting. Students may pursue academic enrichment, portfolio development, athletic training, leadership experiences, or specialized interest-based courses led by experienced LJCDS faculty and industry professionals. Programs emphasize independence, critical thinking, and preparation for future academic and extracurricular success. Offerings vary by week and discipline. Please review individual program descriptions for scheduling, prerequisites, and additional details. Arrival & Dismissal Drop-off and pickup take place in the Genesee Avenue parking lot at 9490 Genesee Avenue, La Jolla, CA 92037. Camp staff will greet students at arrival and escort them to their designated areas. Virtual-Creative Writing Intensive: The Big Project (Grades 9–12)Upper School Camp Summer 26 CatalogCreative Writing Intensive: The Big Project is a virtual summer workshop for rising Grades 9–12 students who are working on, or planning, a sustained piece of creative writing. Projects may include a novel, collection of poems, one-act play, memoir, or other long-form work. Students will spend the week developing their individual projects through dedicated writing time, structured discussion, and guided feedback. Participants will read and respond to extended excerpts from one another’s work and engage in generative writing exercises designed to support writers across genres. This course is ideal for students seeking a supportive community of peer writers, meaningful critique, and focused time to move a major writing project forward.
