Little Torrey Cheer (K–Grade 4)Fall 2026 - MovementShow Your School Spirit! Are you interested in becoming a cheerleader? Little Torrey Cheerleaders build strength, confidence, and skill as they work together on a routine that lifts the whole LJCDS community during Homecoming Week. Students develop motions, jumps, kicks, tumbling, stunting, cheer, and dance, then showcase everything they have learned at halftime of the Homecoming varsity football game and at the Lower School pep rally.This program is cumulative and attendance at every session matters. Call time on Homecoming night is approximately 5:30 p.m.; cheerleaders warm up and stay together until they perform at halftime, then are released to their parents. Please do not sign up if you have planned absences or cannot make the performances. Jumps, cheer, and dance: the full range of sideline and performance skills. Teamwork above all: cheer is a group sport, and athletes rely on one another to build stunts and visuals. Martial Arts: Cool Cats (Kindergarten)Fall 2026 - MovementLEARN MARTIAL ARTS! Are you a kindergartner who likes to move, wants to feel braver, or has always wanted to try martial arts? In Cool Cats you’ll learn the fundamentals—awareness, traditional karate, kicking, and boxing—while building focus, self-control, and respect for yourself and the people around you. Whether you are already dreaming of a black belt or just want to try something new alongside your classmates, this program is for you. LED BY: Maia Hayden, a black belt with more than twenty years of martial arts practice, who came up through the Freestyle Martial Arts program herself. Program highlights Weekly Monday sessions: forty-five minutes of martial arts every Monday afternoon. Fundamentals from the ground up: awareness, traditional karate, kicking, and boxing, taught for complete beginners. Character before technique: focus, self-control, discipline, and respect are the point of every class. A small group: capped at 12 so every kindergartner gets hands-on correction. Taught by a lifelong practitioner: an instructor who trained through the same program she now teaches. Super Moverz (K–Grade 2)Fall 2026 - MovementSuper Moverz: Power Up Through Play! Train Like a Hero! Are you a student who loves sports, imaginative adventures, or high-energy games? In Super Moverz, you’ll take on story-based missions, tackle exciting obstacle courses, and practice throwing, catching, striking, agility, balance, and teamwork. Along the way, you’ll build confidence, grit, fair play, and real-life movement powers while having so much fun you may not even notice how hard you’re working. Whether you want to become a stronger athlete or simply try something new, this program is for you! Join LJCDS PE coach Brie Benson for an after-school adventure that guides students through progressive, age-appropriate games, physical challenges, and imaginative missions designed to build movement skills and confidence. Story-based missions: Move, play, and problem-solve through an interconnected superhero adventure. All-around sports skills: Develop throwing, catching, striking, agility, balance, spatial awareness, and locomotor movement. Fitness through fun: Build strength, endurance, coordination, and grit through fast-paced games and obstacle courses. Real-life powers: Practice teamwork, communication, fair play, honesty, willpower, and emotional regulation. Progressive challenges: Activities build from week to week and are adapted to support different experience and ability levels. Specialized equipment: Explore Super Moverz games using the program’s exclusive Zaber play equipment, music, and character-guided missions. Tap Dancing (Grades 1–4)Fall 2026 - MovementStart Tap Dancing From ScratchLet's tap together! Grades 1–4 students, have you ever wanted to try tap dancing, or simply learn a new dance style? This is the class for you. Come have fun while learning the basics of tap, building your skills, and creating fun choreography together. At the end of the session, we’ll put it all together for a final showcase performed for friends and families. No experience needed, and students without tap shoes may borrow a pair. LED BY: Christy Yin, Dance and Musical Theater Educator. Program highlights Weekly studio time: students tap in the Middle School Dance Studio each week, building skills session by session. Tap fundamentals: shuffles, kick-ball-changes, and rhythmic combinations taught from the very beginning. Games that build coordination: playful activities that develop balance, rhythm, and confidence. A culminating showcase: the session builds toward a final performance for families and loved ones, followed by a celebration. Yoga (Grades 1–4)Fall 2026 - MovementMove, Breathe, and Build Confidence Through YogaEmpowering Young Minds Are you a first–fourth grade student who loves to move, have fun, or learn new ways to feel calm and confident? In this session, you’ll explore playful yoga poses, practice breathing and mindfulness activities, and build social skills through positive group work. You’ll learn tools to manage big emotions, strengthen your confidence, and show kindness to yourself and others. Whether you’re ready to unlock your inner superhero or just want to stretch, laugh, and make new friends, this program is for you! LED BY Kla-Bada Bee, 500+ hour E-RYT Certified Yoga Therapist, LJCDS alum, current parent, and Middle School yoga instructor. klabada@yoginikbee.com Yoga bolsters are welcome but not required. Program highlights Engaging weekly sessions: age-appropriate yoga, movement, breathing, and mindfulness activities designed for children ages 6–10. Personalized encouragement: supportive guidance and individual attention as students explore poses, breathing techniques, and calming strategies. Build lifelong skills: confidence, balance, coordination, concentration, emotional awareness, and social skills. Practice calm and resilience: simple tools for self-soothing, managing big emotions, reducing stress, and feeling more grounded. Learn through play: games, creative movement, partner activities, and mindfulness exercises make wellness fun and accessible.
