Students meet new classmates and foster connections to start the school year feeling at home on campus. Working with classroom educators, the head librarian and athletic director, students navigate the learning management system and Google Drive, set up lockers, learn effective study skills, Upper School expectations, take a deep dive into research and learn about the athletic program. PM-Summer Reading (Grade 9)Upper School Camp Summer 26 CatalogSummer Reading for Grade 9 is a PM academic enrichment course designed specifically for rising LJCDS ninth graders. This program supports students as they prepare for Upper School English through guided reading instruction, literary analysis, and collaborative class discussions. Students will strengthen comprehension, analytical thinking, and discussion skills while developing confidence with Upper School–level expectations. Instruction focuses on close reading strategies, interpreting texts, and engaging thoughtfully in academic conversations. This program is only available to students enrolled at LJCDS for Fall 2026.Summer 2026 -

Ceramics – Wheel Throwing (Grades 9–12)Upper School Camp Summer 26 CatalogCeramics – Wheel Throwing is an immersive visual arts course open to students in Grades 9–12 who are interested in exploring personal expression through the dynamic and hands-on medium of clay. Students will learn a variety of forming techniques with an emphasis on wheel throwing, focusing on the creation of functional pottery forms. Instruction also includes surface design techniques such as stamping, carving, slip decoration, wax resist, and glaze application. This course supports both beginners and returning students, with individualized instruction and guidance to help each artist develop skills, confidence, and creative voice in the ceramics studio.Summer 2026 -
AM–Fun with Functions! (Grades 8–9)Upper School Camp Summer 26 CatalogFun with Functions! is a morning academic enrichment course designed for students in Grades 8–9 who are ready to deepen their understanding of mathematical functions through engaging, hands-on learning. Through interactive games, collaborative problem-solving, and real-world applications, students will explore proportional, linear, and exponential functions. They will practice identifying, representing, and interpreting functions in meaningful contexts while strengthening mathematical reasoning and confidence. This course encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for how mathematics connects to everyday life and future academic coursework.
